5500 Ravensthorpe Dr, Parker, TX 75002

The Story

Letter from the Sellers To The Future Owners of 5500 Ravensthorpe Drive When we set out to build this home, our goal was to build a home that our children and their friends would choose to be the place where they would want to hang out. It worked out beyond our wildest imagination. The kids and their friends always felt comfortable with the idea that our house belonged to everybody and all were welcome. Secondarily, we also wanted to include a few things for ourselves. Among our favorite aspects of this house (in no particular order) are – The lot – having an acre allowed us to build a very nice home with a pool and still have significant room in the back yard for our kids to create one of the largest slip and slides you could imagine, or to throw footballs or baseballs around, or play ultimate Frisbee. All of that while, at the same time, looking over the back fence to see the cows roaming in the pasture. The pool – we were able to build a pool that we simply could not build on a standard sized lot in the DFW metroplex. We included a diving board at the deep end that provided opportunities for us to enjoy the amazingly imaginative acrobatics of all the kids who visited. We added a ½ bath specifically for folks using the pool so the water and chlorine did not have to be tracked through the house. We also added a pool closet to conveniently store the chemicals and the toys. Upstairs – we took what would have been two smallish bedrooms with small closets and a shared bath along with a small game room and transformed it into two nice sized bedrooms with their own full baths and full sized walk-in closets to go along with an oversized game room plus a media room. The game room is big enough to handle a pool table (also can be a ping pong table) along with an air hockey table, and a keyboard, and there is still room for kids to move about the room. The media room is equipped with a 108” screen and a 3-D capable projector (complete with a couple of pairs of 3-D glasses). The driveway – we added extra width and extra length to provide a larger than normal basketball court for our son and his friends to play. Rich was also invited to join the games and frequently took the kids up on their offer. The games were great fun and the Gatorade fridge in the garage was a hit with all the players, as were the ice cold compresses that we kept in the freezer to help cool them down in the intense Texas summer heat. The sun room – this is Susan’s favorite room and is perfect for enjoying the morning sun or an afternoon nap. It provides a peaceful view of the pool and the back yard. Front porch and back patio – the covered porch in front is a great place to watch a beautiful sunset or the hot air balloons during the Plano Balloon Festival. The covered back patio is an equally great place to enjoy a gorgeous sunrise or a casual meal from the grill or just sit and appreciate being outdoors without baking in the Texas sun. Guest suite – we took two bedrooms with a full bathroom in between and turned it into a guest suite, using one of the bedrooms as a place to watch TV, sit and read a book, or get away for some personal quiet time. It has been a space that our guests have enjoyed immensely over the years. You may have other favorite parts of the house, including the large workshop area (which we have used as a Texas basement for storage), the spacious master bedroom with great views of the pool and backyard, or the office with a full bath. Whatever your favorite part(s) of the house turn out to be, we hope you and your family enjoy it as much as we have.
